96 point, Decanter-rated Domaine Bouchié-Chatellier, Pierre à Fusil, Pouilly-Fumé 2022
Here's what they said:
"This 22ha domaine is situated on the upper slopes of the St-Andelain commune. The vines are on flinty clay - hence the name of this wine, meaning flint - on south- and west-facing slopes. Since 1930 the domaine has been replacing vines with its own stock. The winery is on three levels, allowing the wine to be moved by gravity. This wine was fermented in stainless steel and left on its fine lees until bottling.
Jim Budd: Light citric and grapefruit aromas; attractive mouthfilling texture, good balancing acidity and a vibrant, long finish. Still a little tight but will open out.
Natalie Earl: Bright, vibrant aromas of green apple, freshly squeezed lemon, lime rind and spring blossom. Great intensity with lingering lime and greengage.
Ben Llewelyn: Punchy fermented grass, struck flint, complex aromatics. Mineral coolness, luscious fruit without being cloying. A very accomplished wine for 2022."
Domaine Bouchie-Chatellier Pouilly-Fume Pierre a Fusil - Delicious, smokey Pouilly-Fumé from flint/clay soils.
Pierre à Fusil - as the name suggests has enticing gun-flint aromas on the nose, followed by a rounded, textural, lees-influenced palate. Elegant, refined and easy-drinking.
Made from selected plots grown on the shelly, flinty, kimmeridgian clay of the Saint-Andelain hill overlooking the Loire river. These plots are vinified separately and gently using gravity feeding and low temperatures to settle the must. Fermentation takes places over three weeks under regulated temperatures, followed by time on the fine lees.
