Domaine Sainte Barbe Macon-Villages Les Tilles - Jean-Marie Chaland is the third-generation vigneron of this 9-hectare estate in Viré. Domain Sainte Barbe's vineyards include 23 different parcels of vines, all certified as organic since 2006. 75% of his vines are over 50 years old.

This Macon-Village comes from a 0.5 hectare plot of vines grows on the clay-limestone plateau of Montbellet. Planted at a density of 8,000 vines per hectare in the late 1960s, Jean-Marie Chaland feels that this 40 year old parcel is just starting to get interesting.

The grapes were pressed as soon as they arrived at the cellar, allowed to cold settle before alcoholic fermentation without the addition of yeasts, without chaptalisation and without acidification. The fermentation was controlled to proceed slowly, ensuring that all of the sugars were fermented. It was aged on its fine lees before spending 8 months in stainless steel vats. It was bottled at the end of spring.

Around 3,000 bottles were produced.
