Barbaresco Martinenga Marchesi Di Gresy - One of Italy's greatest wines, Barbaresco Martinenga.
Light mahogany in colour with an orange rim. Fresh, elegant nose showing floral notes, woodland berries, sour cherry, dried orange peel and clove. The palate is layered with bright red fruit and darker spices of cigar box, cocoa and burnt coal. A fine wine, elegantly balanced with great length, complexity and good ageing potential.
Marchesi di Gresy have long been recognised as one of Piemonte's top producers. The company owns 35 hectares of vineyards on 3 different estates, most notably the famous Martinenga vineyard where 11 hectares are dedicated to growing Nebbiolo grapes for the production of their flagship Barbaresco. With its blue marl soil and near ideal southerly exposure, this is considered to be one of the outstanding 'crus' of Barbaresco.
Barbaresco Martinenga takes its name from Marchesi di Gresi's Martinenga vineyards situated in the commune of Barbaresco. These south facing vineyards have a favourable microclimate, which allows the producer to grow grapes of high quality even in potentially difficult vintages.
The wine is aged in 225 litre French oak barriqes for six months and then 50 hl Slavonian oak casks for a further 12 months. The wine is bottled aged for a further 10 months before release.
Ideal with richly seasoned meats (red or white) or mature cheeses.
Sold in cases of six bottles
