Blaufränkisch seems to be gaining popularity at the moment, most likely due to its pleasant juicy style and appealing bright purple colour - this one from Nachbil has something of the Southern Rhône about it, a supple muscularity behind the blackberry, sour red cherry and tobacco notes that are typical of this variety. A decent backbone of acidity provides structure, while gentle tannins ensure the wine is perfectly approachable in its youth.
